Making the switch to Squarespace

Making the switch from Wordpress to Squarespace

I've been telling my clients and friends for awhile now about the ease of Squarespace but felt like a fraud for still having my own site on Wordpress. So in a few hours time last weekend I made the switch! My design is basically the same but now there is no more need for FTP, sifting through code to expand a column and worrying about my SEO. I also was able to add in a Process and Rates Page and a Contact form with ease. Here are the other things that I think are wonderful with Squarespace

The templates are minimal, gorgeous, intuitive and allot for a lot of customization. By looking through the templates Squarespace shows you other sites that also used that same template and how they customized it. Unlike other sites, you don't have to pay $400+ for a decent looking template.

Import your old site
I was able to import all my portfolio pages and all my blog posts. Easy.

It's easy! In the preview mode of your site you can scroll your mouse over each part of your site and manually adjust it or it will prompt you on what you want changed. This includes headlines, color, background images, column width, navigation. In a few easy steps you can have a completely customized site. If you're interested in getting a little bit more customized you can buy a developer login and have access to the html files too.

FTP, Cpanel, Domains, Hosting BLAH BLAH BLAH
I'm going to let you in on a little secret - I don't know much about all the technical stuff and thank goodness that my husband puts up with my faults and fixes my mistakes. Instead of signing into different sites for Domains, Hosting, Access to your Cpanel and FTP login everything is right there. Square space handles your hosting and domain with your purchase of their site (about $10/month). I don't need to worry about updating my css or html files after every little fix and their customer support (if you do have any questions) has always been amazing!

SEO is built in!
The thing that makes your site come to the top of the Google search list is Search Engine Optimization. Squarespace builds this into your site - all you need to do is be conscious on how you are naming files, links and captions.

Adding new content
One of the great things about Squarespace is that you can adjust your columns, change your contact and photo layout and group things together.

Mobile friendly
Squarespace automatically resizes your site based on your device - phone, tablet, computer... ummm hello! Responsive design with no extra cost is amazing!
